10 Ways God is Not Like the Stock Market

I just attended one of my favorite annual events – an investor conference. I listened as experts discussed options available to the United States as our nation approaches another debt ceiling crisis. I contemplated how trust in God differs from trust in government or the financial markets.

1 – How to invest? The Market is inaccessible & confusing to many people.  God reveals Himself and wants to be known.

2 – The Market’s payout is called salvation.  God provides the only true salvation.

3 – “The trend is your friend, until it ends.” God is merciful, compassionate and always your friend.

4 – The Market offers multiple complicated strategies for success.  God’s strategies are simple to follow.

5 – The Market invokes feelings of fear.  God grants peace.

6 – The Market invokes feelings of greed.  God offers abundance & all that He has — to anyone who really wants it.

7 – “The Market is always right,” and must be deciphered.  Fads come and go, but God’s commandments and expectations do not change, enabling you to trust Him.

8 – The Market provides jobs for thousands of people.  God is the Bread of Life to all.

9 – Equities Markets close.  The way to God is always open.

10- The Market requires a stockbroker.  You approach can God personally.

“Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth” (Mosiah 4:9).

God promises you that if you approach Him, He will come to you:

“Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:63).

I love the thrills and spills of trading the Market, but my trust and hope are in Jesus Christ who “shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers” (Doctrine and Covenants 112:10).
