10 Ways to Recognize the Mormon Family Next Door
10 Ways to Recognize the Mormon Family Next Door
Could your neighbors be Mormons? Here are 10 ways to find out!
1. Trampled Grass
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sometimes called Mormons, are active in their communities. So whether its from a service project last Saturday, or Cub Scouts Tuesday afternoon, there’s a good chance their front lawn will get well used.
2. Basketball Hoop
Latter-day Saints believe their bodies are a gift from God, so they strive to take good care of them. And most LDS chapels have a large room for social events that doubles as a basketball court. Since Mormons tend to have fairly large families, there might be a basketball standard in the driveway or backyard, too.
3. Water Barrels
Latter-day Saints are taught to prepare in case of an emergency. Which is why so many have these blue barrels full of water in their yards or garages. This ethic of preparation has allowed Latter-day Saints to help when natural disasters reach their homes.
4. Pictures of Jesus
If you ever go inside, one easy way to spot a Mormon are pictures of Jesus on the walls. Latter-day Saints worship Jesus Christ and love Him. They often find images of the Savior bringing peace and comfort to their homes.
5. Pictures of temples
Likewise, Latter-day Saints often have pictures of temples in their homes. Latter-day Saints believe that marriages in temples are blessed by God and last for all eternity. Because family is so important to Latter-day Saints, temples are important to them as well.
6. Have a giant van
Certainly not all Latter-day Saints have large families. But Latter-day Saints believe children are a blessing. So whether they are driving the family to church, or taking a group of teenagers to a monthly dance, Latter-day Saints often find these giant vans (or at least a mini-van) useful.
7. Leave for church together every Sunday
Latter-day Saints attend church every Sunday. They believe that we should learn from others how to improve our lives, receive fellowship, and remember Jesus Christ.
8. Book of Mormon on the dash
If your neighbor is a Latter-day Saint, there’s a good chance you’ll see one of these through their windshield. The Book of Mormon inspires, encourages, and teaches about Jesus Christ. So not only do Latter-day Saints want to have one with them as often as possible, they want one handy so they can share it with anyone else who wants.
9. Invite you to church
It’s true, Latter-day Saints do talk about religion more than a lot of people, but it’s only because their faith brings them so much joy. It’s the same way you want to tell everyone about the amazing steakhouse you went to on Friday.
10. Smiling all the time
That’s right, you can recognize a Mormon next door by the big smile on their faces. And if you’re ever curious, ask them what’s got them grinning so much.
