Mormon Actress Appears on Reality TV Show

Kelly Packard, former ‘Baywatch’ actress and convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently appeared on an episode of  ‘Celebrity Wife Swap.’  In this ABC reality TV show, two celebrity mothers switch homes for two weeks, instigating reflection on their own lives and how they can improve their marriages and families.

Packard, who lives in a small town in California and has 4 children—as well as various farm animals—traded places with Tichina Arnold. Arnold is best known for her role in the 1990’s sitcom ‘Martin,’ and lives in New York City with her husband and one daughter. For two weeks, these mothers live in each others homes, experiencing each other’s lifestyles. During the first week of the swap, they are expected to live by the existing rules of that family. As the second week approaches, Packard is allowed to enforce any new rules she deems necessary for the Arnold family while Arnold can instigate new rules for the Packard family.

Arnold was in culture shock upon arriving to Packard’s Mormon household where no alcohol, tobacco, coffee, or tea is allowed, and the daughters are forbidden from wearing make-up until high school. Arnold reacted to these rules at one point in the episode saying:

“Four kids and no coffee? This is going to be a very interesting week.”

When all was said and done, both the Packard and Arnold family said they learned a lot from the experience. Arnold and her family have committed to spending more time together as a family, and Packard recognizes that date nights with her husband are important.
