Reign of Judges: Beloved Book of Mormon Story Adapted for the Big Screen
Reign of Judges: Title of Liberty, sets out to share one of the most heroic stories of all time. Hoping to take the form of a major Indie motion picture, producers of the movie say it will include—like all of the best films— “epic warfare, treachery, devilish villains, gallant heroes, and love.” The story is one members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are very familiar with: it’s the story of Captain Moroni and the Nephite Republic.
The unique aspect about this film is that its script can already be read online, and filming hasn’t even started. The movie’s site shares that Darin Southam, the script writer, has worked with Fox, Disney, ABC, Sony, and Discovery Channel, but was still cautious about turning such an important story into a film. However, he couldn’t help but realize the story would make an epic movie. The site quotes him saying:
[pull_quote_center]Movie images explode, frame by frame, in my mind every time I read the story.[/pull_quote_center]
Reluctantly, Southam finally put those images to paper in December of 2013. Since then, the script has undergone almost 100 revisions and the producers have received feedback from many prominent people in film, including JD Payne, writer of the third Star Trek.
The story takes place in the New World 73 B.C. and follows the story of Moroni, “a newly-minted Chief Captain [who] defends a young republic from tyrannical usurpation. The throes of battle and insurrection refine Moroni into the mighty Captain he becomes. With Amalickiah secretly scheming to overthrow the new republic, Moroni learns the savage truth…freedom is not free.”
