New App, Wardplan, Helps Latter-day Saints Serve Better
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will find that service has become easier with the help of a new app, which launched in early September.
The Church is organized with lay leaders, many of which put multiple hours a day into their Church calling. Greg Trimble, the creator of Wardplan, said the idea came from sitting through various ward councils and realizes that in a typical ward council meeting everyone is jotting down notes either in an old notebook, on cell phones, or even on sticky notes, with the hope that the Executive Secretary writes down the assignments for follow-up at the next meeting.
Throughout the week, those notes on cell phones get deleted and the sticky notes and notebooks get lost and people forget what they have said they would do, or don’t remember when they were to complete it. This often times results in uncompleted tasks and inefficiency.
In Trimble’s announcement of the app, he says that he hopes:

Some features of the Wardplan app include:
- Prioritize Service Assignments: prioritize assignments in order of importance and allow leaders to see the list from anywhere
- Built-In Chat: send private and group messages to leaders who may be unable to attend the actual meeting
- Snapshot: Receive minute-by-minute detailed history of the service that leaders are completing; be able to glance each day and know what was able to get done and what will need to happen the next day
- Investigators: Don’t forget what specific individuals, families, and investigators may need—click on the person and view what each auxiliary leader is doing to serve the person or family
The app can be accessed from the web page or on a mobile device or tablet. Those interested can purchase Wardplan from the Apple Store for $1.99.
