Mormon Minute: Weekly LDS News Recap for November 14, 2014

LDS.net’s Mormon Minute recaps LDS news that happened during the week in the Mormon world. This week, we talk about: Mormon Newsroom’s response to the heavy (and inaccurate) coverage of the gospel topics series on Joseph Smith and polygamy on LDS.org, the Church’s website overcomingpornography.com’s new FHE lessons series, and Alex Boye’s new cover of Taylor Switft’s hit song, “Shake It Off.”

0:10 – Polygamy Essays on Lds.org

Several weeks ago, the Church published a new series on its gospel topics page about plural marriage in Kirtland and Nauvoo. This past week, many media outlets published articles about the essays on polygamy, reporting that the series revealed new information on the subject. Mormon Newsroom responded to the articles by stating that the gospel topics page on churchofjesuschrist.org is a resource for members of the Church to study gospel doctrine and church history topics, and that the essays provided no new information to its members.

0:40 – New Resources Provided on Overcoming Pornography

The Church’s website overcoming pornography.com released a new series of family home evening lessons about pornography. The four lessons are presented in a way that families with younger children and teens can teach and discuss the problems. The lesson topics cover the sacredness of our bodies, how the spirit can help us choose good media, what to do if you come across pornography online, and the atonement’s healing power.

1:05 – Alex Boye’ “Shake it Off” Cover

And Alex Boye’ is at it again with his new cover of Taylor Swift’s song ‘Shake it Off.’ The video is a hipster African version that combines his quirky style with Taylor’s hip hop song.
