Italian Mormons Fast Over Slowed Construction on Rome Temple

During October 2008 General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Thomas S. Monson announced that the Church would be building a temple in Rome, Italy.

In 2010, Monson participated in a ground-breaking ceremony for the temple, which was given an estimated completion date of mid to late 2014. With the start of the new year, Latter-day Saints in Italy are beginning to wonder why the temple has not yet been completed.

On January 25, 2015, member’s of the Church across Italy joined together in a day-long fast, praying that the sacred building will be completed soon.

Facts are still coming to the surface as to why the construction on the temple has slowed, but the Church released a statement today explaining that the delay is due to “contractor difficulties not related to this project.”

The statement expressed gratitude toward Latter-day Saints in Italy, stating,

The Church assures that those issues have been resolved and that the construction should continue again at a normal pace, however no official completion date has been released.
