7 Tips to Use Social Media in Church Callings
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a YouTube video on April 16, 2015 to help LDS members appropriately use social media in their Church callings.
The Church’s social media resource page on LDS.org talks about the importance social media in the Church, “When carefully used, the Internet can help coordinate the work of the Church, strengthen faith, and minister to the needs of others. The Internet can also help with missionary work as people connect with friends and family and share Church content. However, electronic communication should not replace face-to-face contact.”
The following seven tips are shared in the YouTube video shown above:
- Always get Priesthood approval before you create any website, blog or social media profile
- Pick a platform that is appropriate for you stake, ward or auxiliary
- Do not use or imitate the official Church logo in any way
- Your site, blog or profile should not be the official name of your church unit. Add a work like “news” or “friends” to the name
- Always respect copyright
- Make sure you have proper consent before sharing anyone’s personal photos or stories
- Actively monitor the content on your page
