Mormon Minute: Weekly LDS News Recap for July 15, 2015
LDS.net’s Mormon Minute recaps LDS news that happened during the week in the Mormon world. This week, we talk about: President Packer’s funeral service, Church head quarter’s statement on changes within the Boy Scouts of America program, and Lindsey Stirling’s latest collaboration.
The Church honored President Boyd K. Packer in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Friday. His son, Allan F. Packer of the Seventy, as well as Elders M. Russell Ballard, Dallin H. Oaks, and President Thomas S. Monson each spoke of Packer’s example and gift of teaching.
“Our friendship is one of long standing. Boyd Kenneth Packer knew the Lord, and the Lord knew him. I have a firm testimony of this truth. He was inspired and talented as a teacher. His ability to express gospel truths was a gift he shared freely with the world.”
The Boy Scouts of America Organization removed their ban on gay leaders, while still leaving the standards set for leadership positions up to religious organizations. The Church stated,
“As a chartering organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always had the right to select scout leaders who adhere to moral and religious principles that are consistent with our doctrines and beliefs. Any resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts of America regarding leadership in scouting must continue to affirm that right.”
And Lindsey Stirling joined the band Echosmith in a new version of their hit song ‘Bright.’
