Mormon Minute: Weekly News Recap for January 27, 2016

The Mormon Minute recaps news that’s happening in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This week, we cover: the open house and dedication dates for four temples; the preview of the Church’s Easter campaign; and a surprise haka dance performance at an LDS reception.

Temple Open House Dates – 0:06

The First Presidency announced open house dates for three more temples later this year. The Sapporo Japan Temple will begin it’s open house on July 8th, the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple will open it’s doors to the public on August 5th, and the renovated Freiburg Germany Temple will follow suit on Friday August 12th.

Easter Initiative – 0:25

With Easter around the corner, the Church is preparing for another initiative they hope will have a large reach. The campaign is inspired by the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah and will focus on the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This past Christmas season the Church’s A Savior is Born message reached over 55 million people worldwide.

Look inside Suva Fiji Open House – 0:46

The Suva Fiji Temple began its open house this week after closing in 2014 for renovations. The beaches and jungles of Fiji inspired the colors and design of the overall theme of the building. The temple will serve 35,000 latter-day saints and is scheduled for re-dedication on February 21st.

Haka Dance Goes Viral – 1:04

And after a couple was sealed in the Hamilton New Zealand Temple, the groom surprised his new bride with a haka performance. The video continues to soar in popularity with half a million views and counting.
