How Haitians Find Happiness Despite Sickness, Hunger and Unemployment

With 78 percent of Haitians living in poverty, finding the means to support a family is extremely difficult. Yet, despite unemployment and hunger, the people of Haiti still find happiness.

Mormon Channel’s new video features individuals who have signed up for what is called the Chicken Project, a project that LDS Humanitarian Services organized. This project helps teach self-reliance and aids Haitians as they get back on their feet.

Individuals who choose to take part in the project receive chickens, supplies and training needed to start a business of their own.

“Families are grouped together to construct coops and support one another,” Mormon Channel explains. “Profits are used to buy additional chickens and supplies, sustaining the business.”

Watch the video, shared above, to see how the Chicken Project has helped individuals become more self-reliant and strengthened the community.
