Mormon Channel: Rebuilding Lives Following Devastating Typhoon in the Philippines

In 2013, Typhoon Yolanda devastated the Philippines and killed thousands and displaced 4.1 million people. The storm brought sorrow and despair, but it also brought service.

The storm changed the lives of one couple, from Tacloban, after their daughter drowned and their home was destroyed. Mormon Channel shares the couple’s story in a video published to YouTube.

After the storm forced them to live on the streets, the couple was grateful when they discovered a shelter program, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The husband explains, “We volunteered to build houses for those who were victims of the typhoon. In return, we ourselves also received a house.”

Knowing nothing about carpentry or building prior to volunteering with the shelter program, the husband now supports his family with the skills he has learned.
