What do Mormon Women Look Like Now?

Latter-day Saint women are a diverse and different group. Each sister has something unique to offer the world. Our new General Relief Society Presidency are the perfect examples of how a variety of life experiences can combine to “make rich music.”

Relief Society President Jean B. Bingham was born in Provo, Utah as the third of nine children. She met her husband Bruce while attending school at BYU. The Bingham’s had two daughters, but decided to become foster parents as well. She returned to college after her children had grown and received multiple associates’, a bachelor’s, and a master’s degree.
President Bingham sought knowledge wherever she could.
Sister Sharon Eubank, First counsellor in the RS presidency, served a full time mission in the Finland Helsinki mission. She taught English in Japan and worked in the U.S. Senate. She’s directed the Church’s Wheelchair Initiative and established LDS Employment offices in Africa and Europe since 1998. She was called to act as the regional director of humanitarian aid in the Middle East in 2008.
Sister Eubank has built a life dedicated to service.
Sister Reyna I. Aburto was born in Nicaragua and married Carlos Aburto. Both were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Two events shaped her life: surviving an earthquake that killed her brother and destroyed her home, and living through civil unrest in Nicaragua during the 1970’s.
Sister Aburto embodies the idea that trials can be overcome. Life is not easy. You’ll rarely have every aspect of your life under control. Sometimes life will completely blindside you. But by turning to Christ, you can overcome every challenge.
The new General Relief society presidency embodies the values that spiritually define Latter-day Saint women. They seek knowledge however they can. They serve with open hearts. They overcome challenges through Christ. Each have had unique trials and experiences, but they are sisters in the gospel.
Whether you’re married or not, born-Mormon or a convert, a parent or childless, there is room for you in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All Christ ask for is a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Let’s embrace the unique nature of each sister and make beautiful music together.
