YSA Hacks: 4 Tips to Get a Valentine’s Date
As a twenty-something-year-old who lives in Provo, I’ve had my fair share of awkward, weird, and just plain awful dates. Luckily, all of this was not for naught since I can share some of the tips I learned with you. If you’re a young single adult (YSA) reading this, then you probably know by now that dating is a serious endeavor. You’re not out in the battlefield to have fun; you’re trying to find an eternal companion. And what better opportunity to do so than Valentine’s Day? Use these four tips to make sure you find the perfect date for Valentine’s Day.
1. Show Your Marriage-Hungry Side
No one wants to waste their time dating, show your potential valentine you mean business by flashing your marriage-hungry side. This one’s a little tricky since you don’t want to come off too strong. However, working in questions like “How many kids do you want to have?” or “What temple do you want to get married in?” are goods ways to introduce the subject naturally. You could also mention how getting married is part of your six-month plan.
As a plus, following this will also help weed out the kind of people you don’t want as a Valentine (i.e. people who just date to “have fun” and “meet new people”).
2. Call Members of the Opposite Sex “Brother” or “Sister”
What better way to show a new love interest how you’re feeling than by calling them “brother” or “sister”? Why not associate the love the love you feel for the members of your actual family with the butterflies you get when you meet eyes with your crush? They’re sure to get the message that you’re into them when you use these cute terms of endearment.
3. Don’t Stop Talking About Your Mission
You want your beau to know how righteous you are right? What better way to do this than by repeatedly bringing up your mission. This helps you reinforce how righteous you are. A good rule of thumb is to incorporate at least one mission story per topic that you discuss. To be safe you also might want to throw in a few phrases from your mission language. Don’t worry if your date doesn’t speak the language; the language of love — and more importantly, the language of the gospel — is stronger than any man-made language.
4. Use LDS Resources to Find Prospective Dates
If you’re having a hard time finding “the one,” you’re probably just not trying hard enough. For those of you in this situation, start using the resources around you like FHE or the ward list. FHE is a great way to meet people (bonus: it’s a great place to practice using tip number two!). If you’re a little on the shy side, the ward list might be a better choice since you can just ask people — even people you haven’t met at church yet — out over text. If you’re short on time but eager to find a date, you can even use the ward list to send out mass texts.
And that’s it, just four simple tips to set you up with the Valentine’s Day date of your dreams. Who knows, you might even end up with an engagement by the end of March!
