5 Tips for Ministering During a Pandemic

COVID-19 has thrown the entire world for a loop. However, a worldwide pandemic cannot stop ministering! I know I’ve been guilty of letting my ministering slip a bit during this crazy time. If you’re in the same boat, here are my 5 best tips for being a ministering superhero from afar.

1. Video Chat

Texting is good, a phone call is better, but you should really try doing a video chat with those that you minister to! This way of connecting is a lot more personal (and more fun, in my opinion). I feel like it gives you the chance to see how they’re really doing. Plus, it’s a lot easier to have a conversation this way than over text message.

2. Making Treats

I’m very aware that this is possibly the most cliche ministering idea in the world, but that’s because it’s awesome. Who doesn’t love freshly baked goodies on their doorstep? My garden has been overflowing with zucchini and I definitely have the time to do some baking. Just be sure to ask your families if they have any dietary restrictions before getting started!

3. Craft Time

If you minister to a family with small kids, pick up a DIY kit or put something together yourself. Providing a way for them to entertain the children will be a lifesaver! You could go an extra step by connecting it to the Come, Follow Me lesson for the week. If you want some ideas, check out the free printables we offer!

4. Socially Distant Exercise

I saw the funniest idea on my Facebook the other day. Try doing a fun, outdoor exercise session with your ministering families! Grab your yoga mats or turn on a Zumba YouTube video. I think this totally looks like a blast. If I minister to you, grab your tennis shoes and get ready for this one.

5. Pray

Ministering can be tricky sometimes. Maybe your families refuse to talk to you. Or perhaps you’re homebound right now and can’t do any of these things. If you have a special circumstance, simply pray. Pray for your families and pray for guidance. Heavenly Father knows exactly how you can help them and He will guide you through His Spirit. Sometimes praying for them is all we can do!
