Church Members Gain Free Ancestry.com Access
May 12, 2014
Today UtahValley360.com reported that this week, 45,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will receive free access to three paid genealogy websites: Ancestry.com, MyHeritage.com and FindMyPast.com. This is part of a process which will eventually culminate in all Church members receiving access.
The additional resources will aid members of the Church desiring to find their ancestors in order to provide them with temple ordinances. Ancestry.com is the world’s largest online family history resource, with over 12 billion records and 2 million subscribers to its websites. FindMyPast is mainly a website for UK ancestry, and has many birth, marriage and death records that neither the Church’s FamilySearch website nor Ancestry.com have access to, according to FamilySearch. MyHeritage offers family websites for staying in touch with relatives and sharing family history, as well as a Windows application for family tree building, a mobile app and various family history research tools.
