Couple Shares Desire to Adopt with Rap Music Video
Over the past few years, the Savage family has been looking to adopt. In order to stand out from other couples, they decided to create a rap music video to inform people they are ready to be parents.
When Melissa and Chris Savage got married seven years ago, they knew they wouldn’t be able to have kids. They decided to start looking for ways to make their dream of being parents come true. Adoption was their first option and they contacted many agencies, but haven’t found their baby yet.
Both Melissa and Chris served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and knew from their experience that they needed to share their desire to adopt with everyone. This included telling friends, strangers, giving out business cards with their information, creating a website and engaging in as many conversations as possible. One of the social workers that has worked with them encouraged them to let everyone know about their situation. The social worker informed them that if they spread the word, they may be able to find more opportunities to adopt.
“We learned on our missions the importance of sharing a good message, and we thought there was a similarity with our situation,” said Chris.
After some time looking and sharing their desire to adopt, they felt they needed to do something else. Melissa proposed that they should make a video. “It was something that people could share and that they would want to share,” said Melissa. Neither of them knew anything about it, but Chris agreed and they both started looking for a way to make this happen.
Their main idea was to make something funny and entertaining to catch people’s attention and let them know they were looking to adopt. They contacted Chris’ friend Dave Neeley to help with editing, and Melissa’s former student Gerrad O’Brien (Lil’ G) to rap it.
Chris and Melissa said that they plan on showing the video to their future children. Chris explained,[pull_quote_center]We would tell them, ‘This is what we went through to find you. We put ourselves on display to find you.'[/pull_quote_center]
The Savages hope that this video will help them find a child that they can love and care for. You can contact them through their website Our Savage Family.
