Do Latter-day Saints Believe in the Same Jesus as Other Christians?

Well, do they? Is the Jesus Christ that Mormons believe in the same as the one the Protestants, Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, Evangelicals, and other Christian denominations believe in? There have been an abundance of heated arguments across social media on this subject as of late, so let’s take a look at both sides of the issue. But for the sake of brevity, the only answer we can come to is: It depends on your point of view.

The argument

I hate to turn this into an “us against them” scenario, because it never should be, but for the sake of organization and clarity here’s the standard argument:

WE SAY that we’re Christian because we believe in

We Mormons claim to be Christian, because we believe Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, and we try to emulate Him as best we can. BUT some people claim that because we believe Christ did certain things that don’t explicitly appear in the Biblical record (like visiting the Americas), we must believe in a different person altogether
