General Authorities, Loved Ones Pay Respect to Elder Scott at Funeral Services
This morning, family, general authorities and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated the life of Elder Richard G. Scott.
At the age of 86, Scott passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 from causes incident to age, while surrounded by family at his home in Utah.
President Henry B. Eyring conducted the funeral services. General Authorities and loved ones spoke at the funeral and had the following remarks to say about Scott and his life.
Michael W. Scott – Son
- Richard Scott was a great a noble spirit.
- Scott lived a life filled with happiness of joy—he was a musician and artist and loved to go exploring.
- Scott came back from his mission deeply and fully converted to Jesus Christ.
- He chose to make things great…”His marriage to [Jeanene] was perhaps the greatest of all.”
Elder D. Todd Christofferson – Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
- “Although piercing, those eyes were not accusatory. Rather, he was searching to know how he could help us.”
- “He urged, rather commanded us, to serve our companions [spouse] with greater and greater devotion.”
- “[Scott’s] footsteps are everywhere. I’m amazed that one man could have reached so many.”
President Russell M. Nelson – Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
- “Elder Scott’s teachings have impacted people throughout the world, including my own family.”
- “Thanks to the atonement of Jesus Christ, Elder Scott is now experiencing the joy of moving forward, he is free from the fetters of mortality.”
- “Elder Scott will continue his apostolic ministry with his Master.”
President Thomas S. Monson – Prophet
- “[Scott] was more than capable of handling any task that came his way, and he always did so with great thrill and great skill.”
- “We have all had in our midst these years, Richard G. Scott, an honorable man—even a man of God. Richard was blessed with an insightful mind…and a charitable spirit.”
- “Richard G. Scott was a man of God for all seasons. He loved people. He loved his family. He loved his Heavenly Father.”
- “Richard was a gentle soul, he taught us lovingly… Richard G. Scott taught us both in word and in deed.”
- “Richard, our cherished friend, we have loved you here, we will love you there.”
Elder Scott has served as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for 27 years. A private burial service will take place at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
