General Conference: Women’s Conference Recap
The Prophet presided at this 90-minute conference for women of the Church and girls from age 11.
Sharon Eubank was the first speaker. Sister Eubank talked about the unity that can come from mercy and compassion. Let’s not judge each other or let our words bite. Let’s keep each other’s names safe and give the gift of mercy. Unity doesn’t magically happen; it takes work. We have power to remove prejudice and build unity. “I believe the change we seek in ourselves and in the groups we belong to will come less by activism and more by actively trying every day to understand one another.”
Rebecca M. Craven was the next speaker. She spoke about change, the kind of change that comes through faithfully seeking to become more Christlike. “In return for His priceless payment for each of us, the Lord asks us for a change of heart.” Enduring to the end means changing to the end. As we humbly turn to Him, He will increase our capacity to change.
Cristina B. Franco explained the healing power of Christ. To heal brokenness by coming unto Him, we need to have faith in Jesus Christ. As we come unto Jesus Christ by exercising faith in Him, repenting, and making and keeping covenants, our brokenness—whatever its cause—can be healed. Jesus Christ is our loving Savior, Redeemer, The Master Healer, and faithful friend.
Henry B. Eyring gave a powerful talk about the City of Enoch and Zion to Come. He read scriptures that not only talked about the sanctification of the City of Enoch before the Lord destroyed the wicked by flood, but he spoke about how the City of Enoch will return and join with Zion before the Second Coming of Christ. “The daughters who are deeply committed to their covenants with God will be more than half of those who are prepared to welcome Him when He comes.”
Dallin H. Oaks talked about being of good cheer even though we are surrounded by trouble. He counseled the sisters of the Church to trust in God. We have God’s assurance that in the long view of eternity, opposition will not be allowed to overcome us. In the midst of all of this, we have that Heavenly counsel to be of good cheer and to find joy in the principles and promises of the gospel and the fruits of our labors.
Prophet Russell M. Nelson was the final speaker. He too focused on preparing for the Second Coming of Christ. He said that the sisters of the Church have not only the numbers but the spiritual power to change the world. He counseled the sisters to create places of physical and spiritual security. “Simply said, a place of security is anywhere you can feel the presence of the Holy Ghost and be guided by Him.” Our ultimate security comes as we yoke ourselves to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ!
