Gladys Knight Serenades Police Officer on His Birthday During a Traffic Stop
When an officer pulled over a car in Pleasant Grove, Utah, he got an unexpected birthday serenade from soul singer, Gladys Knight.
Knight, a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was riding as a passenger in the car when Officer Paul Rogerson pulled the car over for speeding. The driver of the car informed Rogerson that they were on their way to a Church choir event, at which Knight was to speak at, according to ABC News.
When Knight found out that Rogerson and his wife—who was riding in the patrol car since it was her husband’s birthday—are big fans, the soul singer got out of the car and serenaded Rogerson with a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Mike Roberts informed ABC News that Rogerson let the driver go with just a warning, which is something he likely would have done even if Knight were not in the car.
