LDS Church Helps Iraq’s Fleeing Christians
Last week, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints authorized $100,000 worth of goods to be sent to Iraq. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the fundsĀ are going to thoseĀ escaping the “military assault of the radical Islamic State group.”
The Trib reports that Sharon Eubank, director of LDS Charities, received a call from a Latter-day Saint missionary couple serving in Kurdistan. The couple told Eubank that theyĀ saw about 5,000 people with few belongingsĀ fleeing intoĀ a nearby Christian church for refuge. Eubank says the hardest part isĀ “finding people or organizations who can deliver the aid.”
Many of the refugees are fleeing with little more than the clothes on their backs. Eubank told attendees of the FairMormon Conference this past weekend that the $100,000 will be put towards sending rice, beans and bedding.
