This article originally appeared on
Ever since Brooklyn & Bailey uploaded their Spring/Summer Fashion video a few weeks ago, hundreds of our viewers have been requesting a tutorial for Brooklyn’s hair. I have to admit, she looked adorable in that video.

The hairstyle is quite simple, really, as she was wearing Milkmaid Braids. For today’s tutorial, we show you how to create Milkmaid Braids, as well as a few tricks and tips to get this perfect Summer look!
Since this hairstyle is one of Brooklyn’s favorites, she of course volunteered to be my model today. I swear every time I watch back these videos, I notice how my girls are looking more and more like me every day! {You should seriously watch them as they raid my closet pretty much daily!}
Also, congratulations to YouTube users ThisPersonsPage,DeeDoesMakeup, & Melinda Karkola, who were our Fin Fun Mermaid Tail winners!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 2 small hair elastics, 4-5 bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by parting the hair straight down the middle of the head into two equal sections…
- Gather up one side of hair right behind the ear and begin a simple braid {you want the braid to go toward your face so it won’t bunch up later, and feel free to leave a few wispy strands of hair out in front to frame the face}…
- When you are finished with the simple braid, secure it with a hair elastic…
- Repeat Steps #2-3 on the other side of the head…
- Next, take one braid up and over the top of the head {leaving about 2 inches of hair showing between the forehead and the braid, as you do not want the braid lying directly onto the forehead}….
- Now take the 2nd braid and lay it over the head as well {positioning the braids so that they look the way you want them.
- Tuck each braid end under the braid on top of it, in order to hide them, securing them with bobby pins.
- Then use a few bobby pins to safely secure the braids into place on top of the head.
- {Optional} Go back and gently pancake the braids by tugging on their elbows {this gives the hairstyle its bohemian, true milkmaid look}…
- Add hairspray or accent flowers {as desired}.
