Mormon Sisters Target Carl’s Jr. and Call for Boycott

On August 28th, 2014, Lindsay and Lexi Kite, twin sisters and co-founders of “Beauty Redefined” announced their intent to protest Carl’s Jr’s advertising. The sisters have launched a campaign against Carl’s Jr.’s racy ads by using hashtags on social media, such as “#CuttheCarls” and “#MorethanMeat”.

Concerning the effort, DownTrend reports Lexi Kite saying,

[pull_quote_center]They are just pushing the boundaries, and they are doing it blatantly. They are only getting more and more sexually objectifying. We know as well as anybody how much harm this does to men, to boys, to girls, to women, to relationships. It’s time to speak up,[/pull_quote_center]

For years Carl’s Jr. commercial viewers have spoken up about this topic as models such as Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum, and Paris Hilton have been featured in their advertisements. In 2005 the company released the following statement via email,

[pull_quote_center] The women in our award-winning ads are intelligent, talented and beautiful professional actresses and models. We have only the greatest respect for women and their contributions to society at all levels in business, at home and in the community,[/pull_quote_center]

Many people say that these commercials don’t portray the models for their intelligence or talent.

To the Kite sisters, this campaign is more than just expressing an opinion. Deseret News reports Lexi Kite saying that it is a “public health crisis”.
