Neon Trees Singer Speaks and Performs at Mormon LGBTQ Affirmation Conference

Tyler Glenn, the lead singer for Neon Trees, participated in an on-stage interview at the Mormon LGBT conference this past weekend, hosted by Affirmation. 

Glenn, who came out as gay in March 2014, shared the struggles he has had with being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a gay pop-star. He said,

[pull_quote_center]I choose to be Mormon, but I didn’t choose to be gay. I choose to believe in God and I choose to believe in the scriptures.[/pull_quote_center]

During his interview, Glenn revealed that he still believes in the teachings of the Church.

“I feel like I have a real relationship with my Father in Heaven,” Glenn said. “And maybe it’s not who I envisioned when I was 16, but for me, I really feel like somebody is out there, I feel like Christ and his teachings are true, I feel like the Book of Mormon and the Bible teach things I believe in, and I can’t say that my feeling when I pray or my feeling when I go to Temple Square is false. I feel like I still feel of a warmth and… validity. I’m still figuring it out, and I don’t want to be told that I have to choose [between being Mormon and being Gay].”

Following his interview, Glenn performed some hymns on stage, including “Where Can I Turn For Peace?”
