New iPad App Gives Insight into Joseph Smith’s Life
A new app released for the iPad is taking users on a photographic journey of the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The iTunes description of the app, “Witness of the Light,” informs potential buyers that,

The app uses more than 230 photos, featuring images from Joseph Smith’s birthplace in Vermont to his martyrdom at Carthage Jail in Illinois. Scot Proctor who created the app with his wife is also the photographer behind the beautiful pictures featured in “Witness of the Light.” Proctor is the exact same size as the prophet Joseph Smith was, and says that he oftentimes will set the camera up on a tripod at his eye-level to capture the scene exactly how the beloved prophet would have seen it.
In addition to allowing Saints to learn of the life of Joseph Smith through his eyes with Proctor’s photography, some other features the app boasts includes:
- A slide show at the beginning of each historical section
- Fifteen videos from Proctor
- Many of the photographs taken in the season that matches the historical context
- Each photograph can be enlarged to full frame with the tap of a finger
- Accurate photographs of nearly every place Joseph Smith received revelations
The app costs $8.99 to download and is available for purchase from the iTunes Store.
In addition to creating “Witness of the Light,” the Proctors are the founders, publishers and editors of Meridian Magazine, an LDS magazine that can be found online at ldsmag.com. They have published to the site every dayâexcept Sundayâfor the past 16 years.
