Old Spice Star Terry Crews Says Porn Use Led to Infidelity

Actor and former football player Terry Crews admitted to talk show host Wendy Williams in a video published today that he had been addicted to pornography since age twelve and added that this addiction led to other problems in his life. Crews suggested that his pornography use led to infidelity in his marriage, and to blaming his wife for his addiction. “You can’t have something like that in your life without it growing into something else,” Crews said.

This comes on the heels of a massive child pornography bust. CNN reported the arrest of more than 70 people in connection with the possession or distribution of child pornography. Those arrested included a rabbi, a scoutmaster and multiple police officers.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been repeatedly warned by Church leaders of the dangerous properties of pornography. Websites such as Fightthenewdrug.org, which was founded by Mormons, use scientific arguments in order to classify pornography as an addictive substance similar to alcohol or any other addictive drug:

It turns out, cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs have more in common than you might think. Sure, on the outside, some are poured into a glass while others are lit on fire and smoked. But once they’re in the body, they all do the same thing to the brain: flood it with a chemical called dopamine. That’s what makes them addictive. And porn does the exact same thing.

Within the broader pshychological community, the topic remains controversial. Pornography addiction is not a diagnosis in the most recent  Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).
