Provo City Center Temple Becomes the Church’s 150th Operating Temple

Elder Dallin H. Oaks, an apostle for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, dedicated the Church’s 150th temple on Sunday.

Oaks dedicated the Provo City Center Temple, Provo’s second temple, in three dedicatory sessions. Mormon Newsroom reports that tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints living inĀ Utah participated in the dedication via broadcast at their local church meetinghouses.

The Church rebuilt the temple from the ruins of the burned down Provo Tabernacle. The restored building, now an operating temple, was built to feel like the original tabernacle structure.

Prior to the dedication, youth from the temple district participated in aĀ cultural celebration, which took place on Saturday, March 19 on the campus of Brigham Young University. AboutĀ 4,500 youth performed on the floor of the Marriott Center, dancing and singing about the history of the Church in Utah.

The Provo City Center Temple will serve the Saints living in the Provo and Springville areas.
