Seeing Through the Adversary’s Lies
Karen John, author and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, released her newest book, Guilt Free: Using Remorse to Escape the Adversary’s Tool, which addresses Satan’s tactics and how to avoid becoming despondent amid trials. Feeling guilt is a human characteristic that hinders progression. However, we can use the guilt we feel in such a way that it can actually help us access the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
In Guilt Free, which hit shelves earlier this month, John discusses six lies told by the adversary that we should ignore.
1. Comparison
Comparing yourself to others causes you to highlight the flaws in yourself as you focus on the strengths of others. This creates inaccurate perceptions of everyone.
2. Our Thoughts
If you want an unclear picture of who people really are (yourself included!), then focus on your thoughts. Satan tries to convince us that “[we] are who [we] think [we] are rather than who God thinks [we] are.”
3. The Atonement
Many people give in to Satan’s lie: if you sin too much you cannot be forgiven. John explains how this is not true and that the Atonement is for everyone.
