The 9 Best Dory Quotes To Live By
Dory may not be able to remember what she said, but the little blue traveling companion from “Finding Nemo” was certainly full of wisdom. We can’t wait to hear more in “Finding Dory,” but before we go, here’s a recap of her most poignant advice.
1. We Must Go and Do
“You can’t never let anything happen to him. Then nothing would ever happen to him.”
Marlin is despondent he couldn’t protect Nemo, but Dory helpfully reminds him that life is full of doing things. Where have I heard that before?
2. “Now We See Through a Glass Darkly”
“I don’t know where I am… I don’t know what’s going on. I think I lost somebody but I, I can’t remember… and I can’t remember…”
Dory’s next three pieces of wisdom all revolve around her most notable characteristic, her terrible memory.
3. Bow on Finger, Notepads, Clownfish Dads
“I look at you, and I… and I’m home. Please… I don’t want that to go away. I don’t want to forget.”
Dory doesn’t forget when she’s near Marlin. Is there anyone we can be close too that will help us remember? There definitely is.
4. Remember, Remember
“I remembered it. I bet I could even remember it again . . . P.Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney. I did it again.”
Has anyone ever been so excited about remembering things? I can think of someone.
5. Go Ahead Trust Each Other
“Yes, trust. It’s what friends do.”
It’s impossible to live happily when we can never trust those around us.
6. The Trite Optimist
“Hmm . . . I’d say it’s half-full.”
Is half full of water a good thing? It’s better than half empty if you’re a fish.
7. No Use Sitting Around
“How are we gonna do that unless we give it a shot and hope for the best.”
Nike has “Just do it.” Yoda has “Do or do not.” Nephi has “Go and do.” Well Dory had to get on that wisdom train too.
8. Look Around
“This is the Ocean, silly, we’re not the only two in here.”
When you’re in hard times, it’s easy to feel like you’re all alone. You’re not.
9. Now You’ve Got That Song Stuck in My Head
“When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming.”
In the end, Dory’s best advice is probably her most classic. When hard times seem to keep you down, just keep moving forward.
