Wyoming Breaks Ground on First LDS Temple
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke ground on the Star Valley Wyoming temple in Afton, Wyoming, which will be the first temple in Wyoming, on April 25, 2015.
Elder Craig C. Christensen of the Presidency of the Seventy and Elder Kent F. Richards, executive director of the Church’s Temple Department, presided at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“There couldn’t be a more appropriate place for a house of God,” Christensen told Mormon Newsroom. “The temple is a gift of God. It is to the great heritage that is here… It links generations together. The temple will become a landmark, a sacred place for this valley for years to come.”
The temple will take about two years to complete after construction begins on the Star Valley Wyoming temple.
